How to Customize Asset Forms with Categorization

Categorization allows one to group objects in Calem based on their category hierarchy. It also provides features including attributes and view customization. This blog discusses the view customization based on categorization. Asset object is used here as an example. The concept is applicable to other objects such as location.

1. Form Customization and Categorization

Assets with categorization codes assigned will have customized forms based on categorization codes. For instance, the screenshot below shows an asset screen for categorization of "Server". The one below it shows an asset screen for categorization of "LinuxClone".

When you customize an asset form, Calem uses the asset's categorization code to retrieve and save the customization. The categorization code ("Server") is shown in the form title if a form is customized for a categorization.

 2. Turning Off Form Customization by Categorization

The feature of form customization by Categorization is great if you need to have customized views by categorization code. However, if you need all your asset forms to look the same. The categorization code may get in the way:

  • Customize asset forms based on your requirements.
  • The customized forms look fine. However, opening another asset, the customization is gone.
Calem provides options to disable customization by categorization.
  • You may edit a categorization code to turn off customization by checking "No Custom View" field. The following is the list view showing view customization for categorization codes (menu path: Organization | Codes | Categorization List). You may also use data export/import to bulk update the flag.
  • There are system configuration to turn off categorization based customization for asset forms. Contact your Calem Support Team to do it.
